Update:
Air Cleaners: The Association had been testing the use of air cleaners in the clubhouse. Two were installed and were in use for approximately 4 weeks. The overall concensus was that the units were not effective. It was decided during the regular meeting held 9/19 that the units will be returned. (The cost of two units would have been close to four thousand dollars)
Outside Lighting: Brian Davidson replaced the lights at the porch ramp and rear (kitchen) door. The fixtures there were not operting properly. The light at the ramp was of particular concern for the safety of patrons as they cross Ferndale road.
Dam Water: Concern was expressed by some members regarding the water quility in the dam. There was an issue with p/h early in the 2011 Trout season. Lime was added to correct same. Some felt that too much lime was added. Consulations with our trout supplier and Bill Reichart of the Schuylkill Consevation Office did not indicate a problem. The trout issue was limited to the third week of the season. Testing has indicated acceptable p/h readings and aquatic life (minnows, tadpoles/frogs, snakes, etc.) indicate a healthy enviroment. The Association will continue to monitor the situation.
Flood 2011:
The Association experienced minor damage due to the recent heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Lee.
The foot bridge below the dam spillway was carried beyond (under) the state road bridge (Little Catawissa creek) and came to rest along the bank about 50 feet downstream from the highway bridge.
The railings are bent/ twisted.... the base seems to be undamaged.
We would like to thank Ken Gibbons who used his "Bobcat" loader to make repairs to the parking lot (seen above).
Also, the "clean-out" dam up-stream (Stoneyrun) from the dam was washed out.
Water in the club house basement reached a depth of a foot or so with no damage noted. We would like to thank Brian Davidson for installing a second pump in anticipation of Hurricane Irene which kept water levels to a minimum.
Road Safety / Playground:
The pedetrian area signs and "Not a Thru Road" signs have been posted in the playground area in the interest of member's safety. Also, grass seed will be applied as weather permitsto the surface repaired around the playground equipment and road.
Thank to Don Puhl who volunteered his equipment for the drilling, help by Travis Houser, Nathan Kufro, Rob Glinskas and Mike Stauffer in digging post holes and to Brian Davidson who installed the sign posts..
The playgroud area was repaired on Sunday, July 31st. The surface was damaged during last year's dam cleaning project. Top-soil was spread over the area in front of the large swings and along the playground road.
Fellow member and Trustee, Ken Gibbons donated his time and use of his "Bobcat" loader to spread the soil.
He also spread stone in front of the kitchen shed and Porta-Pottie to fill in gaps and low spots. We thank Ken for his work.
Project volunteers included Bob & Josh Pukavage and Rob Glinskas.
